Born and raised in Sudbury Ontario, Emily discovered her love for dance at a local dance studio when she was 5 years old. Through her exploration of all of the styles of dance that her studio offered, she fell in love with ballet. At the age of 12, Ms. Murray moved to Toronto to begin her professional training at Canada’s National Ballet School, where she graduated in 2017 and was subsequently invited to join the Post Secondary Program. During her time at the school, and through other summer programs at the Australian Ballet School and Ballet Jörgen’s Junior Company Intensive, Ms. Murray has been able to work with choreographers such as James Kudelka, Peggy Baker, Bengt Jorgen, Hannah Kiel and Jera Wolfe. She has also had the opportunity to dance works by George Balanchine, John Neumeier and Ramon Oller. In 2020, Ms. Murray joined Ballet, under Director and CEO Simone Orlando. Since joining the company she has had the pleasure of working with many prevalent choreographers such as Kirsten Wicklund, Heather Dotto and Simone Orlando. Most recently Ms. Murray was part of the creation and world premiere of Macbeth, a full length Ballet choreographed by Alysa Pires, where she was featured as one of the three witches. Aside from dancing with Ballet Kelowna, Ms. Murray has also found a love for sharing her knowledge of ballet through teaching. She is currently teaching in the In Motion adult ballet program through Ballet Kelowna and has taught masterclasses at her former dance studio in her hometown of Sudbury. Ms. Murray is excited and honoured to have the opportunity to work with and share her passion with these young dancers!
